What is your “why”? What drives you as a person?

I love fun, laughing, connecting with other people and the great outdoors. When I’m being a little more introspective, I’ve been really into mindfulness lately. Getting the most out of life by soaking up every moment.

What are your hobbies? Why do you think you are drawn to those activities?

I’ve recently decided my main hobby is scheming. I’m usually dreaming up my next business, buying urls for potential projects or testing out new marketing tools just for funsies.

What are your favorite kind of problems to solve (could be in your personal hobby, or in your job, or just in general)?

In business-y settings, I love helping with messaging, branding, copy and the like. I’m especially fond of a good brainstorm. And, I also love giving relationship advice. Not that I’m particularly good at it, just kinda into telling people what to do. :]

What project(s) will you be working on during the Winter 2018 session?

I will be working on getting The American Picnic Society rolling along — it’s about ready to go live, so I’ll need to do a bit of marketing and get to growing. And, I can’t help it … I’m also starting on a new scheme: Spaceport, an e-commerce shop that sells supplies to manifest your dreams through magic (paired with good old fashioned trying).

What is your “why”? What drives you as a person?

My interests have evolved over the last few years, but a few constants have been the drive to become better each year (in my personality, career, health, etc.) and to form meaningful relationships with people that bring out my best or expose me to new ideas/things in the world.

What are your hobbies? Why do you think you are drawn to those activities?

Riding my motorcycle, reading, and playing a bit of guitar. The motorcycle is very cathartic and exploring the country roads appeals to my need for spontaneity and adventure (I’ve been lost with half a gallon of gas left 12 to 15 times too many). The latter two appeal to my passion for learning and challenging myself, though the guitar can be very cathartic as well.

What are your favorite kind of problems to solve (could be in your personal hobby, or in your job, or just in general)?

I love to connect things. Ideas between books, data points toward a trend, people with other people. Reaching an epiphany while combining ideas or connecting friends and seeing them collaborate always gets me excited.

What project(s) will you be working on during the Winter 2018 session?

I’ll be starting a book club/reading list on SurajKan.com. My hope is that this project will help me retain information better and encourage others find a passion for reading. Many times I leave a conversation thinking, “Wow, this friend would really love this book!” After going live, I’ll be able to send them a link to my takeaways from the book which I really look forward to.

What is your “why”? What drives you as a person?

I love building things. I love connecting with people. And I love writing stories that move people. I’ve been struggling to figure out one single answer to this “why” question for months. I want to help people live better lives by empowering them to follow their dreams. Of course, that’s ridiculously cheesy and stereotypically millennial. But that’s where I’m at.

What are your hobbies? Why do you think you are drawn to those activities?

I have recently been getting into drawing, and I love rock climbing. I’m also trying to get into podcasting. I’m excited about learning to draw because it’s an awesome activity to do by yourself no matter where you are in the world. That’s a good fit for the nomadic lifestyle I expect to live for the next few years. It’s also a hobby where you can find inspiration everywhere, and it helps you become more mindful of beauty all around you, and you can see rapid improvement. I’m also drawn to rock climbing because of the rapid improvement aspect, and because of the possibilities it opens up for amazing experiences all over the world.

What are your favorite kind of problems to solve (could be in your personal hobby, or in your job, or just in general)?

I love to tackle communication challenges. How do you tell your story in a way that resonates with your target audience, and motivates them to action? How do you learn to communicate better with yourself, with full honesty? How do you write a story or a speech that will get your point across, but also make people laugh?

And I love to use technology to tackle challenges of the human existence that will never go away — like accountability, motivation, and our need for connection.

What project(s) will you be working on during the Winter 2017 session?

I will be continuing to hone my pen and ink drawing skills and my watercolor skills.
